Hawaiian Word of the Week: Malama

In 1994, the United States federal government declared today to be a federal holiday when they passed the King Holiday and Service Act, to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The focus for today is around providing malama (pronounced: mah-lah-mah) or to take care of our community.

Malama is part of aloha. We need to show malama to the aina, to our keiki (children), to our kupuna and to each other. With the pandemic the last couple of years, high inflation and prices for a number of our necessities, and natural disasters (there is SO much rain in California right now where I am) that we need to take care of each other. 

Members of our community need us and today is a great day to start some local community service. Not sure where to start, find local volunteer opportunities here.
