Hawaiian Phrase of the Week: 'A'ole pilikia

We all love Hawaii and there are certain phrases we always use when we are there…aloha, keiki, and of course mahalo to show our gratitude. And of course, when someone says ‘thank you’ to us, we acknowledge that with ‘you are welcome’. When someone says ‘mahalo’ you answer that with ‘a‘ole pilikia (pronounced: ah-oh-leh pee-lee-kee-yah).

It is human nature to want to be acknowledged…to be seen. These days, with crazy scheduled and the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day lives,  it is so easy to forget simple manners…and to say mahalo to those who show you aloha. And in that spirit, acknowledging someone that showed their gratitude to you…. a simple ‘a‘ole pilikia can go a very long way.

How will you acknowledge those who show you aloha?
