Did you know that each one of the Hawaiian islands has its own designated color? Yellow, or mele mele [meh-lay meh-lay] in Hawaiian, is the official color of Oahu, the island that inspired our next kit. Each island also has its own designated flower. The ilima is Oahu’s flower and is a symbol of love. According to Aloha Hawaii, Early Hawaiians used ilima flowers as a cure for general illnesses and pregnant women sometimes ate the flowers until childbirth.
